The separator is an orthopedic device made of 100% silicone gel designed to limit the deviation of the big toe (hallux valgus) and distribute loads in the interdigital and metatarsal areas. Its gel mimics the cushioning of subcutaneous tissues, reducing friction and local pressure during walking. The two-piece design allows it to be assembled in a spool shape for joint use or the use of a single half in cases of metatarsal calluses or specific pressure points. Developed in collaboration with podiatrists, it provides stable and comfortable support suitable for daily use in closed or open footwear, and can be integrated into rehabilitation or injury prevention programs for the forefoot. Indications for use include conservative management of mild to moderate deviations of the big toe, symptomatic relief of interdigital friction, and protection of hyperkeratotic areas. It does not replace assessment or surgical treatment for advanced deformities; it is considered a supportive tool within a multimodal therapeutic plan that can be combined with physiotherapy, foot orthoses, and load optimization measures. For athletes and active individuals, it can be used as a complementary measure in recovery phases or prevention of discomfort due to overload in impact activities. Its use can be accompanied by sports nutrition strategies and supplementation — for example, sports supplements, multivitamins, protein shakes, or vitamin supplements — aimed at tissue recovery and general maintenance, without the separator interfering with these nutritional measures.
Farmaten ships the range of products from its online store free of charge to all of Spain, including regions such as Murcia or La Rioja.
- Alignment of the big toe: helps limit lateral deviation and prevents overlap with the second toe. - Pressure reduction: silicone gel distributes loads, decreases friction and pressure points. - Symptomatic relief: reduction of discomfort while walking associated with interdigital friction and calluses. - Versatility of use: two-piece design allows for full or partial use (one half) according to clinical need. - Comfort and support: ergonomic shape that maintains position without causing instability. - Compatible with rehabilitation and prevention programs for active users and older adults. - Hypoallergenic and durable material: 100% silicone with good resistance to daily use.
Can it completely correct a bunion? The separator helps realign and limit the progression of mild or moderate deviations, and provides symptomatic relief; it does not replace surgery for advanced deformities or specialized assessment when indicated.
Can it be used during sports activity? It can be used in low and medium impact activities as a protective and preventive measure; in high-demand sports, individual assessment by a professional is recommended to determine compatibility with footwear and the dynamics of the activity. Is it suitable for diabetics? In the presence of diabetes, poor circulation, or peripheral neuropathy, prior consultation with a healthcare professional is recommended before use. How long should it be used each day? Tolerance varies; many users wear it for several hours a day during walking activities or throughout the workday; if discomfort or irritation occurs, use should be discontinued and consultation sought. How is it cleaned and stored? It is washed with water and mild soap, rinsed, and left to air dry; avoid direct heat sources that may deform the silicone. Is it hypoallergenic?** Made of 100% silicone gel, a material generally well tolerated; however, it may cause irritation in highly sensitive skin.
Before the first use, the separator should be washed with water and mild soap. The two halves are assembled to form a spool to position it between the first and second toes, with the wider part facing the sole. In the presence of metatarsal calluses, a single half can be used over the affected area for localized protection. It is recommended to evaluate the duration of use according to tolerance and clinical objective (preventive, symptomatic, or in rehabilitation), alternating periods of use with rest to assess tissue response. For regular cleaning, wash with water and mild soap, rinse, and let air dry; avoid prolonged exposure to intense heat or abrasive products that may alter the silicone.
Do not apply to irritated, erythematous skin or open wounds. In individuals with diabetes mellitus, peripheral vascular alterations, neuropathy, or venous ulcers, evaluation by a healthcare professional is required before use. Discontinue use if persistent redness, pain, or skin reaction occurs. Keep out of reach of children. Store in a cool, dry place, avoiding high temperatures that may deform the gel. It is not a substitute for medical or surgical treatment when indicated; its use should be part of an individualized therapeutic plan. It does not provide protection against infections nor does it heal injuries by itself. No anti-doping certification applies; in case of use in competition, verify specific regulations of the sports federation.
