The 3% sodium chloride solution works through osmosis, drawing water into the nasal cavity and helping to thin thick secretions. This facilitates their removal with the spray and helps to decongest the nasal passages, improving breathing. In addition, nasal irrigation produces a mechanical cleansing effect, which helps to remove secretions, particles, and some of the microbial load present in the nasal mucosa.
Sodium hyaluronate, for its part, possesses viscoadhesive and moisturizing properties. When applied, it forms a protective film over the nasal mucosa, helping to maintain hydration, reduce irritation, and promote the integrity of the nasal tissue.
