Bucomed Pro Chlorhexidine 0.12% combines the anti-plaque action of chlorhexidine with an adsorbent system (ADS®) that minimizes the usual tooth staining associated with chlorhexidine mouthwashes.
Chlorhexidine is a cationic antiseptic widely used in oral hygiene due to its ability to bind to tissues and biofilms, maintaining antibacterial activity for several hours after application.
The alcohol-free formulation reduces the burning sensation and irritation of the mucous membranes, which promotes tolerance in treatments of limited duration.
The presence of PVP-VA copolymer and sodium DNA in the excipient contributes to the stability and efficacy of the ADS® system, reducing interaction with dental compounds that cause staining and facilitating a more acceptable user experience compared to classic chlorhexidine mouthwashes.
Enhanced bacterial plaque control; prevention and treatment of gingivitis; support in post-surgical phases and after periodontal procedures; care in patients with orthodontics or prosthetic devices when mechanical control is limited.
Chlorhexidine alters the bacterial membrane and causes loss of cellular integrity; at low concentrations it acts bacteriostatically and at higher concentrations it produces a bactericidal effect.
The binding to oral tissues transmits a prolonged effect that usually extends for several hours (typically 6–12 h), depending on conditions of use and microbial load.
Being alcohol-free reduces mucosal irritation; however, transient alterations in taste, a sensation of dryness, or, in rare cases, hypersensitivity reactions may occur.
The ADS® system reduces tooth staining, although it may not eliminate it completely in all cases.
Its use is recommended after proper mechanical hygiene (manual or electric toothbrushes and, if appropriate, dental floss or irrigator) to maximize the removal of biofilms.
The product is part of the pharmacy's oral hygiene range, which it complements with dental cleaning products and mouthwashes.

- Prolonged anti-plaque and antibacterial action thanks to the substantivity of chlorhexidine.
- Reduces common tooth staining using the ADS® system.
- Alcohol-free formula that minimizes mucous membrane irritation and burning sensation.
- Indicated for the treatment of gingival inflammation and postoperative oral care.
- Compatible with dental hygiene routines that include toothbrushes, floss, or irrigators; useful when mechanical control is limited.
What microorganisms does this mouthwash eliminate or control?
It primarily controls oral bacteria involved in plaque formation and gingivitis; it has activity against some oral fungi and shows limited efficacy against viruses, its use being indicated mainly as a bacterial antiseptic.
How long does the protection last after rinsing?
The substantivity of chlorhexidine provides prolonged protection that usually lasts for several hours (around 6–12 hours) depending on oral hygiene and microbial load.
Can it be used with orthodontics or prosthetics?
Yes. It is especially useful when mechanical control with toothbrushes and other tools is difficult; it acts as a support to reduce plaque and gingival inflammation.
Does it completely prevent tooth staining associated with chlorhexidine?
The ADS® system significantly reduces common tooth staining, although it does not guarantee total elimination in all cases; professional mechanical cleaning helps to remove persistent pigmentation.
Is it suitable for children?
Not recommended for children under 12 years of age. For children or pediatric use, supervision and professional advice are recommended.
Can it be ingested or used inside the cavity beyond rinsing?
Not for ingestion. Its use is limited to mouth rinses; avoid contact with eyes and ears.
How long can the treatment be maintained?
The usual recommended treatment period is up to one month, and if you wish to extend it, consult your dentist. In the absence of professional supervision, use for more than two weeks is not recommended for some pediatric indications.
