Weleda Prenatal Perineal Oil 50 ml
All product information

Perineal massage oil is formulated to prepare and soften the skin of the perineum during the final weeks of pregnancy, helping to improve tissue elasticity and tolerance during childbirth. Regular use from week 34 onwards may help reduce the likelihood of interventions such as episiotomy.

It is composed of a blend of plant oils such as sweet almond, wheat germ, sesame, and jojoba, which provide nourishing, emollient, and antioxidant properties. Sweet almond oil moisturizes and softens the skin, wheat germ provides vitamin E, sesame offers essential fatty acids, and jojoba helps balance hydration with a light, non-greasy absorption.

It also includes natural essential oils that provide aromatic components, forming part of its sensory profile. The product has been dermatologically tested and is suitable for use during pregnancy as part of prenatal care routines.

Its application is exclusively topical and is integrated as part of childbirth preparation care, complementing other aspects of motherhood such as breastfeeding or the use of breast pumps, without relation to infant feeding or breast milk.

The texture allows for a comfortable and progressive massage, promoting tissue elasticity without leaving an excessively greasy feeling. It is recommended for external use only, avoiding application in cases of infection, wounds, or pain, and storing in a cool, dark place.

When should perineal massage begin and how often?
It is recommended to start from week 34 of pregnancy, performing the massage regularly several times a week until delivery, adjusting the frequency according to tolerance and recommendations of the healthcare team.

Is it safe during breastfeeding?
The product is indicated for use during pregnancy and does not interfere with breastfeeding; its application is topical and does not affect breast milk when used according to instructions.

Can it cause allergies or irritations?
The formula is dermatologically tested. It contains essential oils that include compounds such as limonene and linalool, which may cause sensitization in people with pre-existing allergies. Do not use if you have a known hypersensitivity to any of the ingredients.

Does it completely eliminate the need for episiotomy?
Perineal massage can reduce the likelihood of episiotomy in many pregnant women, but it does not guarantee its avoidance in all births. Its effect is part of a comprehensive childbirth preparation strategy.

Can people with atopic dermatitis use it?
Being dermatologically tested, it can be tolerated by sensitive skin; however, in case of active atopic skin or a history of allergic reactions, consult a healthcare professional before use.

Is it suitable for intravaginal use?
The massage may include a light insertion of the thumb into the vagina according to the technique described; avoid deep insertions and stop the massage if any discomfort occurs.

The oil is applied to the external perineal area (the labia majora) and the area between the vagina and anus. Perineal massage includes gentle internal movements with the thumb and external movements with the fingers, tracing imaginary radii to stretch the tissue downward and outward toward the anus. The usual technique consists of: 1) moistening the area with a small amount of oil; 2) performing upward and radial massages with progressively controlled pressure until you feel tension without pain; 3) gently inserting the thumb into the vagina, exhaling, and stretching the tissue downward and outward; 4) repeating, tracing radii between the 3 and 9 o'clock positions, for a few minutes per session. Avoid applying excessive force; the massage should not cause pain.

- For external use only.
- Avoid massage in the presence of vaginitis, active genitourinary infections, wounds or injuries in the area.
- Do not continue the massage if it causes intense pain; the expected sensation is tension or resistance, not pain.
- Keep out of reach of children.
- Store in a cool, dry place, protected from light and heat.
- If there is a history of allergies to vegetable oils or any of the aromatic components, consult a healthcare professional before use.
- Dermatologically tested product; in case of skin reaction, discontinue use and consult a doctor.
